Chord Electronics has been designing and building DACs, headphone amplifiers and preamplifiers in Maidstone, Kent since 1989. Founded by John Franks, their electronics are distinguished by extraordinary engineering — their DACs use proprietary FPGA-based processing that represents some of the most advanced digital-to-analogue conversion available anywhere.
Audio Republic is the exclusive Chord Electronics stockist for the North East, stocking the Ultimate Range. The nearest other authorised dealers are in Teesside and Edinburgh.
“John Franks builds DACs in Kent using FPGA
processing that is genuinely unlike anything
else. As exclusive North East stockist of
the Ultima Range, we hear regularly what
these components do to a system.
The
improvement is not subtle and not easily
forgotten. The Chord Qutest DAC is the best
digital upgrade money can buy for £2,000,
yet costs only £1,200!” — Andrew Oliver

“If you take digital music seriously — and you should — Aurender changes what’s possible. Their servers retrieve and process music with a precision that rivals the best vinyl replay I’ve heard. Korean engineering at its finest.” — Andrew Oliver

Stax has been building electrostatic headphones in Japan since 1938. Their “earspeakers” — as Stax prefer to call them — use the same electrostatic technology found in the finest loudspeakers, producing a transparency and resolution that conventional headphones cannot match.
We stock Stax at Audio Republic for customers who want the ultimate headphone listening experience. If you’ve never heard electrostatic headphones properly demonstrated, the experience is genuinely revelatory.
“Nothing else sounds quite like a Stax earspeaker. The transparency and resolution is extraordinary — like a window directly into the recording. If you’re serious about headphone listening, this is where the conversation ends.” — Andrew Oliver
We demonstrate all the brands we stock — in our Gateshead showroom or in your own home. Call Andrew to discuss what you’re looking for and arrange a listening session.
