Choosing speakers is the most room-dependent decision in hi-fi. A speaker that sounds extraordinary in our showroom may disappoint at home — or vice versa. That’s why we offer home demonstrations across the North East. You hear the speakers in your room, with your furniture, at your listening volume. It’s the only honest way to buy loudspeakers.
Hi-fi speakers Gateshead — Audio Republic demonstrates Dynaudio, Audiovector, Neat Acoustics, Spendor, ProAc and DALI in a properly set-up system. Andrew will match loudspeakers to your amplification and room, honestly and without pressure. Home demonstrations available. Call 0191 406 7070 Tuesday to Saturday.
Dynaudio has been building loudspeakers in Denmark since 1977. Every driver in every Dynaudio speaker is designed and manufactured in-house — an approach that gives them complete control over the performance of each component and how they work together.
Audio Republic is the exclusive Dynaudio dealer for the North East, stocking the Contour Legacy range. The nearest other authorised Dynaudio dealers are in Teesside and Edinburgh. We offer home demonstrations of Dynaudio speakers across Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland.
“Every driver in every Dynaudio speaker is
made in Denmark in-house. That level of
control over every component is rare — and
you can hear it.
As exclusive North East
dealer, we know this range intimately.
Home demonstrations available.
As a listener
who has never favoured the explicitly bright
sound of high frequency units developed using
rare metals etc, I find the high frequency
performance of Dynaudio loudspeakers to meet
my ideal.
The ESOTAR tweeter designs combine
extension and clarity with an unfailingly
sweet sound that allows for extended
listening.” — Andrew Oliver
Neat Acoustics was founded by Bob Surgeoner in County Durham in 1989. Their speakers are designed and built in the North East of England — a fact that makes Audio Republic’s relationship with the brand particularly fitting.
We are the full-range Neat Acoustics dealer for the region, stocking Classic and Strata ranges, with four Neat speakers on permanent demonstration. We are the only Neat Acoustics stockist between Teesside and Edinburgh. Home demonstrations are readily available.
“Built in County Durham by Bob Surgeoner since
1989. There’s something fitting about the fact
that our local speaker manufacturer makes some
of the most musically engaging loudspeakers
available at any price.
We are the only
independent Neat stockist between Teesside
and Edinburgh.
There is a special alchemy at work within each Neat loudspeaker design that
other much larger commercial manufacturers
can often miss. These loudspeakers have the
uncommon ability to deflect your thoughts from
the hi-fi system and on to the music itself.
An outstanding example of this is the Petite
Classic which rewrites the rule book for how
a £2,000 loudspeaker should sound.
Combined with one of our beloved Rega amplifiers and
a suitable source component, the result is
pure magic. We are delighted to stock most
of the exceptional output from this
magnificent company. Neat is the one
to beat!” — Andrew Oliver
Spendor was founded in 1969 by Spencer Hughes, a BBC engineer who understood what accurate sound reproduction actually meant. Their speakers have always prioritised natural tonal balance and transparency over impressive-sounding specifications.
We stock Spendor at Audio Republic. Their Classic and A-Line ranges offer some of the most musically engaging loudspeakers available at their respective price points.
“Spencer Hughes understood accurate sound reproduction — he was a BBC engineer. That heritage runs through every Spendor speaker made today. Natural, honest and genuinely musical. One of Britain’s finest.” — Andrew Oliver
ProAc has been building loudspeakers in Hertfordshire since 1979. Founded by Stewart Tyler, their designs have always emphasised musical involvement over technical specification — speakers that make you want to keep listening rather than analyse what you’re hearing.
We stock ProAc Response Level speakers at Audio Republic, with other models available to order and demonstrate.
“Stewart Tyler has spent forty years making
speakers that make you want to keep listening
rather than analyse what you’re hearing. That
is harder to achieve than it sounds, and ProAc
does it consistently.
ProAc’s present outstanding range of loudspeakers has evolved over many years. A prime example of this is
the D20R, the industry standard £4,000
loudspeaker. Sensitive enough to be driven
by a Sugden A21A, this pairing offers truly
fabulous sound for the money.
If you wish to trade some bass extension for midband insight, useful in a smaller room, then the D2R is the
perfect solution.
We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of our DB1R loudspeakers, heir to the throne of the legendary Response 1SC.
At the other end of the scale we shall shortly be
adding a pair of D48Rs to our demonstration
stock.” — Andrew Oliver
DALI — Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries — has been building speakers in Denmark since 1983. Their combination of ribbon and conventional driver technology produces an exceptionally open, detailed and natural sound across a wide range of price points.
We stock DALI at Audio Republic across several ranges. Home demonstrations are available.
“Danish engineering with a ribbon tweeter that
adds an openness and delicacy that conventional
tweeters rarely match. Exceptional across their
range — and particularly good value at their
entry and mid points. In our opinion the Sonic 5
represents unparalleled value at £899.
Their high frequency units are some of the smoothest
that you will find at any price, combined with
an amazing bass performance from such a
moderately priced cabinet. However, when driven
by a suitably powerful amplifier, the scale of
sound that these transducers present is simply
staggering.
It is a sound that does not fall
apart at high volume levels, remaining coherent
and richly balanced. A favourite of mine and
our go-to loudspeaker under £1,000. Very nicely
finished.” — Andrew Oliver
Audiovector is a Danish loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1979 by Ole Klifoth. Their speakers are characterised by exceptional build quality, precise engineering and a musical presentation that combines detail with emotional engagement.
We stock Audiovector at Audio Republic. Their upgrade programme — which allows you to progressively improve purchased speakers rather than replace them — is unique in the industry.
“This 47 year old company has established itself
as a manufacturer of loudspeakers of the utmost
quality.
At present we represent the QR SE range
which has proven to be very popular. Whilst each
model is outstanding in its own right, our
affections lie in particular with the QR5 SE
model which is a domestically acceptable size
and has specifically outstanding bass response
and an open, sparkling and fatigue-free treble.
All of this is contained within beautifully
finished cabinets and comes with magnetically
attached grills and superbly adjustable spikes.
Thought has gone into every aspect of this
design.” — Andrew Oliver
YG Acoustics is an American manufacturer of reference-level loudspeakers machined from solid aluminium billets. Founded by Yoav Geva, their speakers represent some of the most precisely engineered and musically revealing loudspeakers available at any price.
We stock YG Acoustics Peak Range at Audio Republic for customers seeking reference-level performance.
“Machined from solid aluminium billets. The
precision is extraordinary and the sound
reflects that — among the most revealing
loudspeakers I’ve heard at any price.
For customers who want reference-level performance
and won’t compromise. The end result are
loudspeakers of unparalleled clarity and
neutrality which, once experienced, proves
highly addictive assuming that your electronics
are up to the mark.
In particular the smallest model, the Cairn, is the outstanding solution for small rooms. The level of bass available from this loudspeaker is staggering, although
it benefits from a powerful amplifier.”
— Andrew Oliver
