Hi-Fi Servicing & Repairs
Expert turntable and hi-fi servicing from our Gateshead workshop
Audio Republic’s hi-fi servicing Gateshead workshop handles everything from vintage turntables and classic British amplifiers to modern CD players, cassette decks and loudspeakers. Equipment bought anywhere is welcomed, and all work carries a 3-month guarantee.
Our Service Department
Audio Republic’s service department is led by a technician with an exceptional depth of knowledge.. After spending years at Technics and Panasonic’s UK Head Office in Watford — where he developed specialist expertise in laser disc and CD player technology — he went on to spend over eight years at Lintone Audio in Gateshead, one of the North East’s most respected hi-fi specialists.
Iain has been with Audio Republic for four years. In that time he has built a reputation for thorough, reliable servicing across a wide range of equipment — from vintage turntables and classic British amplifiers to modern CD players and cassette decks.
When you bring equipment to Audio Republic for servicing, it is handled by someone who genuinely understands what he’s working on.
What We Service

Amplifiers — integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers and power amplifiers across all brands. Valve and solid state. Fault finding, component replacement, full service.
CD Players — Iain’s specialist background in laser and optical technology makes CD player servicing a particular strength. Laser replacement, mechanism service, transport repair.

Loudspeakers — driver replacement, crossover repair, cabinet repair, rewiring.
We do not service Bang & Olufsen equipment.
Equipment Bought Elsewhere Is Always Welcome
You don’t need to have purchased your equipment from Audio Republic to use our service department. We welcome equipment from any source — whether it’s a recent purchase from another retailer, a vintage piece from a car boot sale, or a family heirloom that deserves proper attention.
The only question that matters is whether we can return it to you working properly. In most cases, we can.
How It Works
1. Get in touch — call Andrew on 0191 406 7070 or send an enquiry to describe what needs attention. We’ll advise whether it’s worth bringing in and give you a realistic expectation of what’s involved.
2. Drop it off — bring your equipment to our Gateshead showroom. If collection is more convenient, we can arrange that too.
3. Assessment & quote — Iain will assess the equipment and provide a quote before any work begins. Each job is priced on its own merits — labour is charged at a consistent rate, with parts costs varying depending on what’s needed.
4. Free upgrade consultation — when your equipment is booked in, Andrew is available for a free consultation on upgrade options. Whether it’s a cartridge upgrade for a turntable or a component upgrade for an amplifier, it’s worth having the conversation.
5. Typical turnaround — most jobs are completed within one week, subject to parts availability. We’ll keep you informed throughout.
6. Collection — once the work is complete, collect from our Gateshead showroom or arrange delivery.
All servicing work carries a 3-month guarantee.
Linn LP12 Servicing & Upgrades
The Linn LP12 deserves special mention. Andrew has been working with LP12s since 2000 — completing over 100 upgrades and services in that time. As Linn LP12 Klimax Retailers, we hold the highest level of accreditation Linn awards.
Whether your LP12 needs a routine service, a bearing replacement, a new power supply or a full upgrade to Klimax specification, we have the knowledge and experience to advise and carry out the work properly.
If you own an LP12 and you’re not sure what state it’s in, bring it in. Andrew will listen to it, assess it, and give you an honest view of what — if anything — it needs.
Book Your Equipment In
Whether it’s a turntable that needs setting up properly, an amplifier that’s developed a fault, or a CD player that’s been sitting in a cupboard for years, get in touch. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s involved and what it’s likely to cost.
No job is too straightforward or too complex. If we can fix it, we will.
