Unboxing & First Impressions
In our first ever Audio Republic video, Andrew unboxes the new Moon 371 network player/amplifier from Simaudio — talking through its design and build quality, and comparing it with the model it effectively replaces. This is a relaxed, real-world first look rather than a spec sheet: close-ups of the casework, controls and connections, Andrew’s take on Simaudio’s design philosophy and engineering, and what makes the 371 interesting for vinyl-focused systems and mixed analogue/streaming setups.
Sound Quality
Part 1 covered the unboxing — now it’s time to find out how the Moon 371 actually sounds.
For Part 2, Andrew set the 371 up in a real system: Audiovector QR5 SE loudspeakers, Cardas Parsec speaker cables, and a handful of carefully chosen tracks, each picked to test a different strength.
- Dire Straits – You and Your Friend to check resolution, low-level detail and how well the soundstage holds together.
- Mando Diao – Black Saturday for timing and rhythm — can the 371 keep complex, energetic music tight and controlled?
- Nina Simone – Baltimore for tonal balance and vocal realism, asking whether it captures the warmth and texture in a voice that distinctive.
- Kanye West – Love Lockdown to dig into bass depth, grip and control.
The aim wasn’t to sell the 371, but to give a clear, experience-based sense of how it performs — including where an all-in-one design like this might involve compromises compared with traditional separates, and what kind of listener and system it suits best.
As ever, the most important opinion is your own. If the Moon 371 has caught your interest, you’re welcome to hear it for yourself at Audio Republic in Gateshead — a relaxed, no-pressure session with music you actually know.
