Last week, in a beautiful Northumberland farmhouse, we witnessed something that stays with you. The installation of a pair of Wilson Audio Watt Puppy 40th Anniversary speakers in Carbon — and the moment when everything came together.
The System
The Watt Puppys would partner with our client’s Simaudio Moon 791 preamplifier and streamer, Moon 761 power amplifier, and his VPI Prime Signature turntable — all connected via Nordost Heimdall cables. A system assembled over time, with care, each component chosen for a reason.
This wasn’t our client’s first significant purchase with us. He’d previously visited our Gateshead showroom to audition the Simaudio Moon 371, following our recommendation for his system. He listened to the advice of the team, auditioned the Moon 371 with the speaker pairing we suggested, and — in his own words — immediately placed an order.
Two Months Before Installation Day
Wilson Audio’s exacting standards for installation saw us partnering with Absolute Sounds, their UK distributor. Two months before installation day, Pedro Jorge-Luis and Adrian Balea visited our client’s Northumberland listening room — measuring it acoustically and determining optimal speaker placement. Every adjustment would account for the room’s reflections, the open fireplace, the furnishings.
This is what precision installation means. Not unpacking boxes and hoping for the best. Understanding the room before the equipment ever arrives.
Installation Day
Andrew, working alongside Pedro and Adrian, combined decades of experience — setting up speakers by ear alongside specialist measurement software. Micro-adjustments in toe-in. Fractional height changes. Each one accounting for the room’s specific characteristics.
Then it happened. A 1mm height adjustment. The slightest toe-in refinement. The room disappeared. The soundstage opened. Our client’s smile said everything.
